St. Lucian poet-activist Taj Weekes joins forces with French roots masters The Ligerians for How Much, a deceptively understated meditation on conditional generosity released through SoulNurse Records.
The track poses uncomfortable questions. “How much does it cost / To get something for free?” Weekes asks over The Ligerians’ luminous rocksteady groove. His lyrics pierce through social niceties, exposing the “hidden transaction fees” that corrupt genuine human connection.
Weekes brings serious credentials. He’s a UNICEF Children’s Champion and the founder of TOCO (They Often Cry Outreach). His humanitarian work bleeds directly into his songwriting. Every line carries weight.

St. Lucian singer-poet Taj Weekes has spent two decades crafting socially conscious reggae that refuses to compromise. His discography, from Hope & Doubt (2005) through Eyes To See (2024), traces a steady evolution, blending roots fidelity with contemporary moral urgency.
Beyond music, Weekes founded TOCO Foundation and championed Caribbean climate justice. UNICEF named him Champion for Children in 2013. Saint Lucia awarded him the Les Pitons Medal Gold. His work proves song and service remain inseparable.

The Ligerians have quietly become roots reggae’s most reliable backbone. This five-piece band, based in Tours, formed in 2010 and swiftly earned respect from Jamaican legends.
