ALEIGHCIA SCOTT SHINES ON A DUB-KISSED WELSH CLASSIC ‘AR HYD Y NOS’

Welsh music collective Celtica Electronica has unveiled a mesmerising Christmas offering. Their festive reimagining of Ar Hyd y Nos (All Through the Night) features the formidable talent of Welsh-Jamaican singer Aleighcia Scott.

Released through Coco & Cwtsh, this enchanting single wraps the beloved Welsh lullaby in a gently dub-influenced production and sweeping strings. Producer Branwen Munn describes weaving “subtle nods to dub” throughout, including a steppers groove and dreamy echoes that complement Scott’s natural affinity for the sound.

“I’ve always felt such a strong connection to my Welsh roots,” Scott explains. “‘Ar Hyd y Nos’ carries generations of Welsh voices. There’s a calmness and comfort in it that I’ve always loved.”

Recording in Cymraeg has become central to her artistic identity, a journey that recently made history when her track ‘Dod o’r Galon’ became the first Welsh reggae song to top the iTunes Reggae Chart.

ALEIGHCIA’S DEEP INSTINCT FOR THAT SOUND WOULD BRING A BEAUTIFUL SENSE OF EASE AND CONNECTION

The collaboration feels perfectly timed. Scott stands poised for a breakthrough year, tipped by The Guardian as one of 2025’s Welsh artists to watch and featured in the BBC’s Ones to Watch. Her debut album Windrush Baby claimed the #1 iTunes Reggae Chart position and earned both a Welsh Music Prize nomination and Grammy consideration.

Alwyn Humphreys’ luminous string arrangement anchors the track, while Munn’s production honours both the song’s traditional soul and Scott’s reggae instincts. “Aleighcia’s deep instinct for that sound would bring a beautiful sense of ease and connection,” Munn notes.

The single precedes Celtica Electronica’s debut album, arriving early 2026. Meanwhile, Scott returns to Y Llais (The Voice, Wales) as a coach alongside Sir Bryn Terfel, continuing her remarkable ascent as a BBC 1Xtra and Radio Wales presenter who’s redefining what Welsh music can sound like.

This is heritage reimagined: rooted, radiant and utterly contemporary.
